David Villa sent off for New York City after referee consults video replay.
New York City FC striker David Villa was sent off in a pre-season game after the referee used a video replay.
The New York City star is currently preparing for his third season in Major League Soccer and was a victim of the groundbreaking technology brought into the game this year.

Villa, who helped Spain win Euro 2008 and the World Cup 2010, struck Houston Dynamo defender, A.J. DeLaGarza, in the face on Saturday and was handed a yellow card for the altercation.

However, the referee then reviewed the incident with the help of the video technology pitchside and determined that his action was actually worthy of a red card, and sent him off.
